New Zealand Officially Recognizes Animals As ‘Sentient Beings’
Breaking news: New Zealand has officially recongized animals as sentient beings in an attempt at pushing forward with more strigent animal welfare laws – including banning cosmetic testing on animals. This is a large step and a positive one at that, in a similar vein to the UK’s laws regarding invertebraes which has been extended to “include all cephalopods,” making it illegal to perform surgery on various animals (such as the octopus) without anesthesia.
