Pets vs. Livestock – Whole Foods Now Serves Rabbit Meat
Breaking news: Whole Foods has added rabbit meat to their inventory nationwide after an allegedly successful pilot program (“allegedly” because it’s unlikely Whole Foods would do this if it wasn’t likely to be profitable – this isn’t something they’ve sprung on the masses), which has sparked outrage amongst some shoppers and animal rights groups. This begs the question of where the line is drawn: Most grocery stores carry meat, even specialty health food stores. Is it unethical to shop at these stores because they serve meat and should vegetarians and vegans be pushing to limit what kinds of foods are served, particularly when the animals in question are commonly pets?
