Breaking news: You may have seen our last update on aritificial meat burgers, and it’s distinctly possible you’ve seen one of the daily updates on artificially-grown meat via social media or your favorite news site. It’s a story in development, and a new-age space race for food, as several companies are vying for a shot at successfully developing the first cost-effective, ‘perfect,’ meatless burger grown in a lab with the taste and texture of a regular burger, sans-animal suffering and ridiculous resource requirements. It’s becoming clear that this isn’t likely a fad that will be going away any time soon.
Pat Brown’s start-up, Impossible Foods, is hard at work developing a burger that will be indistinguishable from the real thing as they target resilient carnivores as their primary demographic, a direction that’s as interesting as it is bold. A major goal of their work is to alleviate the amount of resources that are being used to for agriculture, particularly raising animals.
