Awful Footage From Indiana’s Hog Wrestling at the Harrison Country Fair
Breaking News: As noted in previous articles, despite overwhelming negative media attention, Indiana’s tradition of hog wrestling continued as planned and we can only hope it’s for the last time. This isn’t some hunting tradition that feeds a small tribal village or a meat-eating tradition that westerners don’t agree with because of cultural perceptions (e.g. the Yulin dog-eating festival), no, this is clear-cut unnecessary animal abuse and it isn’t even slightly appropriate, especially in a First World country with a populace that should know better.
In the still footage above you can see three men wrestling a single pig. No, they may not intentionally hurt these animals, but you can see several times throughout the footage that the pigs are scared, already injured, or are ‘incidentally’ injured as a result of the wrestling (I say ‘incidentally’ because it may not be the activity’s intention, but common sense dictates that three full grown men tossing a pig around will result in injury to the animal more often than not).
I admit, overall I’m surprised that this managed to take place even after so many tried to stop it, and perhaps the continuation of this negative attention will help prevent this tradition moving forward – you can do your part by spreading the word. Please share this with friends so we can put an end to this.
