When Grocery Shoppers & Children Are Shown Where Their Food Comes From
Mercy For Animals released a video the other day, one where an interviewer asks would-be shoppers about whether or not they’d considered a vegetarian diet and took it further by showing them footage of standard farming practices, from chick culling to sad, sickly pigs in tiny cages. The video acts as a sort of companion piece to a to this video, in which children are shown photos of typical farm conditions. Much like the children, the adults outside the grocery store are visibly disturbed and saddened by the conditions the animals are raised in.
Animal welfare, sustainability, and health can work together in a trifecta, one that effectively informs typical consumers and sways them away from old habits that were engrained in them early on. While there will likely be no follow-up on these children and those shoppers, I applaud the approach and the organization.
