Chopped Teen Tournament to Feature Vegan Chicken: Premieres Tonight!
Veganism and vegan food are no strangers to reality shows. However, they have mostly been represented negatively, with a particular Wife Swap episode coming to mind.
However, the Food Network’s Chopped, a popular reality show that features chefs who must create meals with mystery ingredients, had featured Rich Landau of the Philadelphia restaurant Vedge, who specializes in vegan cooking. He walked away with top honors and won the cooking competition in 2013, making vegans everywhere proud. The network now has a spin-off cooking show with younger participants, aged 13 and 14 years old, called Chopped Teen Tournament.
The producers of Chopped Teen Tournament seem to also be interested in veganism, and are going to include plant-based ingredients in the show for the upcoming episode for the participants to use in their meals.
On the next episode, airing on Tuesday September 8, participants will be required to cook with vegan chicken for the appetizer round. In the same episode, titled “Teen Tournament: Episode Three”, the competitors will also be working with butternut squash and okra, seemingly keeping a plant-based food theme for the episode.
The opportunity for chefs to showcase some delicious options using plant-based foods is already fantastic news that will hopefully inspire people to incorporate more vegetables in their diets. The inclusion of a mock-meat, we hope, will also serve to showcase alternatives to meat for people around the world.
The winners of every episode earn a spot on the season finale of the show, where they are eligible to win a grand prize of $25,000.
The episode will air at 10 p.m. on the Food Network. Hopefully the competitors will be creative and will inspire us try out some new award-winning recipes!
