Hunger Games Star Liam Hemsworth Talks About His Veganism!
Whether you are a big fan or Hunger Games, or just a big fan of Liam Hemsworth himself, the 25-year-old Australian actor has not only confirmed his veganism, but has proclaimed his love for his new lifestyle!
In a recent interview with Men’s Fitness Magazine, Hemsworth revealed that he has been a vegan for almost five months now, and stated his reason for becoming one was two-fold:
“My own health, and after all the information I gathered about the mistreatment of animals, I couldn’t continue to eat meat. The more I was aware of, the harder and harder it was to do. So, with the facts I was gathering, and then just how I was physically feeling, I felt like I had to do something different, so I adopted this vegan-diet lifestyle.”
On top of doing his own research, Hemsworth also credits long-time raw vegan and Hunger Games co-star Woody Harrelson for introducing him to the lifestyle and inspiring him with is 30+ years of eating cruelty-free.
Although it has been just under five months, Hemsworth is proving that even when you are a celebrity, you cannot avoid experiencing the same redundant questions regular vegans experience all of the time. He stated:
“I constantly get questions like, “How do you get your protein?” and “How do you feel?” And most of the people who ask you this are not healthy people. It always makes me so confused, because I’m like, “What are you eating? Whatever you’re eating, it’s not right…” But there are no negatives to eating like this. I feel nothing but positive, mentally and physically. I love it. I feel like it also has a kind of a domino effect on the rest of my life.”
Initially Hemsworth visited a nutritionist who advised him that a diet full of red meat would work for his blood type. However, the star soon felt the reverse effects and stated that “the more red meat I ate, the worse I felt.” When asked about cravings, while Hemsworth mentioned a longing for cheese pizza in New York, in terms of meat he said he does not see himself being tempted any time soon:
“I never get cravings for meat. The less I eat meat, the harder it is to imagine eating it.”
His veganism seems to already have influenced his brother as well–Chris Hemsworth–who is best known for playing Thor. Liam stated about his brother:
“Through talking to me, he’s somewhat adapting, I think, to eating more vegetables and more plant-based stuff.”
It seems Hemsworth is having a great start with his new found veganism, and when those cheese cravings hit, hopefully the star will soon discover the many dairy-free cheese options available!
