Comedian Aziz Ansari Brings Attention to Plight of Male Chicks
Comedian Aziz Ansari, also known for his role as Tom Haverford in sitcom Parks and Recreations, dedicated some of his stand-up earlier this year to what future awaits male chicks in the egg industry.
His stand-up show, titled Live at Madison Square Garden, was released as a DVD earlier this year, and is now available on Netflix. While Ansari has often mentioned treatment of animals and what people are capable of ignoring in his skits, this time he focused on the fate of male chicks, who are deemed worthless by factory farms.
In the clip that is just over two minutes and 50 seconds, Ansari talks about the specifics behind the egg industry. He states:
“They just get murdered in insane ways. They’ll take all the male layer chicks and throw them into a big chicken wood chipper. Another thing they’ll do is they’ll put them in a big plastic bag, and put a lid on it and suffocate them to death.”
He then went on to talk about how most people would not be okay with this treatment of chickens, and if they knew what they were supporting, it would cause an outrage. He continued stating that most means of getting information out–whether they be via documentaries or books are not effective, and then joked about how if there was an expose on rapper Ja Rule, and it was discovered he was suffocating baby chicks, then there would be consequences.
What followed was some impersonations of Ja Rule calling the comedian to inform him of his new-found vegan lifestyle, and Ansari ended the skit, stating:
“If only you knew how long it’s taken me to find the perfect stand-up bit to showcase my frustrations with the meat industry and my flawless Ja Rule impression, then you’d know my struggle.”
