Vegan NBA Star Challenges FLOTUS to Go Vegan!
The fact that John Salley’s own website lists his professional identities with “Wellness Advocate” before “NBA Champion” and “TV Host” shows just how highly he values his identity as a vegan. In most circles he is likely only known for his stunning career in professional basketball, playing alongside Michael Jordan and becoming the first player to achieve four championship wins on three different teams.
Now, Salley devotes much of his time to vegan ventures and animal activism. Offering his own Vegetarian Starter Kit on his site, becoming a speaker at a variety of VegFests and other organizations’ events, and partnering with Vegan Vine are just the tip of the iceberg. Salley’s latest move in getting more people on board with veganism is by calling out the First Lady and asking her to pledge to go vegan for 30 days!
PETA reported on Salley’s call to action and included his entire letter to Michelle Obama, who developed the Let’s Move! program and was a spokesperson for the Choose My Plate healthy-eating revolution. In an excerpt of the letter he connects with Michelle’s positive influence over a public who has long listened to her enthusiasm for healthy living:
“I urge you to set an example for families all across the country by committing to going vegan for 30 days in 2016. By taking the pledge during your final year serving as First Lady, you will send a clear message to Americans that going vegan is one of the best things a person can do for their health, for animals, and for the environment.”
How incredible would it be to see a presidential familiy member become vegan while in office?
