Vegan Outreach Provides Free Vegan Mentors!
Making the decision to become a vegan is not always easy. From researching about health, what you can eat, and of course dealing with hostile friends or family, it may seem overwhelming for many.
That’s why the latest Vegan Mentor Program launched by Vegan Outreach is especially relevant, and will aim to keep those interested in veganism informed and supported about their choice. The program offers new vegans, as well as those transitioning, daily communication with a mentor who is already vegan. The website states:
“Get connected via email with a volunteer mentor who is already vegan and will help you with anything from navigating the grocery store aisles to figuring out how to respond when people ask you questions.”
The program was originally launched in 2014, but it has since undergone a makeover, and any mentee who signs up can be matched with a vegan mentor within 24 hours! The program remains completely free, and the criteria to become a mentee simply means anyone who is leaning to a more plant-based diet. There are currently 300 mentors, and Jack Norris, executive director of Vegan Outreach, talked about some of the criteria necessary to become one. He stated:
“Being vegan is one of the implied criteria. Beyond that, it’s mostly a matter of hooking people up with others who are compatible. We tend to weed out people who push a restricted version of a vegan diet–we don’t want mentors telling our mentees they should avoid all processed or cooked foods. We also emphasize that the mentorship is not for giving or receiving medical advice.”
If you are interested in becoming a mentor or a mentee, you can do so by signing up on their website today!
