Vegan Company 'Bee Free Honee' on Shark Tank Tonight!
Bee Free Honee, a vegan company specializing in creating apple-based honey, is set to appear on reality TV show Shark Tank tonight.
Founded in 1999 by Minneapolis native Katie Sanchez, the company uses organic apples grown in the United States with lemon and cane sugar to offer an alternative to honey, in order to “take production demand off bees”. Both Sanchez and co-owner Melissa Elms will present their product and company to the celebrity panel of investors in order to secure funding for the high demand of their honee, and increase production of their product while expanding to new and different markets.
The idea for the product was actually based on a mistake Sanchez made when attempting to make apple jelly but rushing and not following the instructions in detail. She still canned the result, and in the morning realized what she was left with was more similar to honey than an apple jelly.
Bee-free honey is not only an idea that is appealing to vegans and those allergic to raw honey, but also to everyone concerned about the very alarming shortage of honey bees, as it becomes an environmental issue. The market for this product, therefore, can mean a lot more than just offering a plant-based sweetener, which is why there are high hopes for it tonight.
The product comes in regular, Ancho Chile, Mint, and Slippery Elm and is available online as well as in Whole Foods and many co-ops, and if they win tonight, we can expect to start seeing Bee Free Honee a lot more!
The episode airs tonight at 8 p.m. Central Time on ABC.
