BAFTA Awards Features Vegan Menu for Celebrities!
Talk about veganism getting great celebrity exposure! This year, during the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards, head chef Anton Manganaro treated the vegan celebrities present to a delicious plant-based menu.
The award ceremony, which is essentially the British version of the Academy Awards, was held on Sunday February 15, and the vegan celebrities present included Natalie Portman, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson, Jessica Chastain, and Joaquin Phoenix.
While it was mistakenly reported that the event would feature only vegan dishes, the vegan options available were definitely impressive! Chef Anton presented peppers roasted over English Beachwood, leek and wild mushrooms, carrots with a poppy seed dressing and a beetroot gel, along with black and white quinoa with radish, lemon and avocado. The menu also included an eggplant tian with peppers, chestnut mushrooms, herb crust, tomato salsa, spinach, and potatoes seasoned with rosemary. The vegan A-listers were not excluded from dessert either, and enjoyed a coconut-based crème brûlée with raspberries, lime, and Thai basil.
It is not only fantastic that such a big event featured a vegan menu, but it also showed what great (and delicious) variety exists in the plant-based world, which hopefully got some other celebrities intrigued!
Elisa Allen, associate director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), stated:
“If there were an award for mouth-watering vegan catering, the BAFTAs would be a tough nominee to beat – attendees are in for a treat! We commend the BAFTAs for taking heed: more and more people are eating vegan to avoid health problems while helping animals and the environment, too.”
Let’s see if the mouth-watering menu resulted in some new vegan celebrities!
