All Vegan Supermarket Veganz to Open This Year in Portland!
Last year, Jan Bredack, founder of Veganz supermarket, announced his plans to expand his Europe-based chain into the United States.
Well, it looks like Portland, Oregon will be the first location to feature Veganz later on this year, and Bredack actually has a few more surprises in store for his new US location. In addition to the supermarket, there are also plans to open an all-vegan clothing and shoe store as well as a restaurant!
Veganz was officially opened in 2011 in Berlin by Bredack, who became a vegan in 2009, and documented his journey in his book Vegan für alle: Warum wir richtig leben sollten, which translates to “Veganism is for everyone: Why we should live right”. It makes sense that he plans to go beyond Europe into North America as he stated that it was actually his travels in both the US and Russia that inspired the idea for the supermarket itself. He stated:
“The decision to open a vegan supermarket came from a potpourri of ideas after coming across various vegan products in the US and Russia.”
Although a specific date has yet to be announced, 2016 will see Veganz open its doors to very excited customers in Portland, and as Bredack himself has noted is the case for his other branches, the majority of customers are neither vegans or vegetarians, meaning the supermarket appeals to everyone.
