Bill Clinton Says "The Vegan Diet is What I Like the Best" at Recent Cafe Visit
While on the presedential campaign trail for his wife, Hilary, former president Bill Clinton stopped by the all-vegan Simply Pure cafe in Las Vegas for some food. Seeming to be in good spirits, he oohed and aahed at the impressive menu, telling owner Stacey Dougan “I’d weigh 50 pounds more if I lived here because this looks so good.”
There has been much speculation and disappointment surrounding Bill’s decision to back away from full veganism in recent years. He opened up to patrons and Politico about the reason he has stepped back:
“[My doctor] asked me to eat organic salmon once a week. I do, but I’d just as soon be without it. The vegan diet is what I like the best … I have more energy, I never clog. For me the no dairy thing, because I had an allergy, has really helped a lot. And I feel good.”
It is wonderful to hear a respected leader discuss veganism openly as something that is not only unworthy of dismissal, but as something that has changed his life for the better. He adds, “I might not be around if I hadn’t become a vegan.” Who knows, perhaps one day he will quit fish and again embrace a fully plant-based diet. We’ll still be here to cheer you on, Bill!
