2016 Oscars After Party Included a Vegan Menu!
Just last month, vegan celebrities who attended the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards were able to indulge in a plant-based menu by head chef Anton Manganaro, which included some very impressive options!
Now with the 2016 Oscars over, it has been reported that the 88th annual Academy Awards stepped up to the plate and also featured many vegetarian, vegan, nut-free and gluten-free options. Barbara Brass, the vice president of catering sales for Wolfgang Puck Catering, stated:
“Adding variety was important, but creating more of a fluid environment where guests could mingle was the main objective.”
During the after party at the Governors Ball, 1,500 celebrity guests were treated to Wolfgang Puck’s menu that included over 50 dishes. He has been responsible for catering the Ball for the last 22 years, and clearly due to requests as well as changing trends, made the decision to incorporate a fair amount of animal-free dishes.
The vegan options, according to Tasting Table, included root vegetable chips, roasted red hummus with jicama sticks, chopped salad with artichokes, asparagus, radicchio and haricot vert, avocado toast with radish, sea salt and finger lime, taro root-based tacos with wild mushrooms and salsa verde, as well as chilled white grape and almond gazpacho. The vegan touch extended to the dessert menu as well, and included dairy and gluten-free coconut cupcakes and double chocolate cherry cookies.
The rise of plant-based eating–even in the celebrity world, has become so popular that restaurants, chefs, and even award ceremonies seek to accommodate the lifestyle!
