Paul McCartney & PETA Name Portland Most Vegan-Friendly City!
The city that will soon be home to the first Veganz in the United States, an all vegan supermarket and deli founded in Germany, has just been named the most vegan-friendly city of 2016 by Paul McCartney and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA),
The announcement was made during Paul McCartney’s sold-out concert in the city, where he and Dan Matthews, Vice President of PETA, awarded and congratulated Mayor Charlie Hales on the achievement. McCartney handed the mayor a vegetable-based bouquet of roses and stated:
“The City of Roses is the city of the future.”
Matthews stated that Portland was chosen for reasons beyond having a lot of vegan restaurants, as the city also has “a summer camp, a punk-metal bar, a strip mall, and even a strip club” that are all vegan.
Other vegan-friendly cities that were also in the running included Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, Seattle, Chicago and Austin. Let’s see if 2017 brings up some more vegan-friendly competition from these cities!
