PETA & NFL Star Tyrann Mathieu's PSA a Finalist for Webby Awards! [VIDEO]
Arizona Cardinal Tyrann Mathieu teamed up with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) last year to create a compelling public-service announcement about the danger of leaving dogs locked in cars during the summer.
The PSA has now become a finalist in the 20th annual Webby Awards in the ‘Public Service and Activism’ category, along with four other videos. Voting ended on April 22, and the winner will be announced on Tuesday April 26.
The video features the NFL star sitting in an SUV for eight minutes with the temperature peaking at 120 degrees. Mathieu began to sweat heavily and stated that when people consider their dog to be a part of their family, they should treat them as such, and never leave them in these type of dangerous conditions. At the eight minute mark Mathieu had to exit the car and was clearly overwhelmed. The video concluded by stating that dogs do not have the ability to sweat and are therefore unable to cool themselves, and do not have the means to exit the car the way the football player was able to.
With the summer heat rapidly approaching, let’s hope that the NFL star’s video–whether it wins or not, serves as a reminder to everyone to think twice before leaving their dogs behind in a car.
Earlier this month, Mathieu also updated his fans about his transition to veganism and the many benefits he has already experienced. You can watch the PSA here:
