Real Time with Bill Maher Features Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society! [VIDEO]
Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, was recently a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher, where the duo spoke about Pacelle’s latest book The Humane Economy: How Innovators and Enlightened Consumers Are Transforming the Lives of Animals, and about gains in the animal rights movement. Maher opened the interview by stating:
“I should have you on more often and more animal people. I probably don’t because this is the issue that you know I care about the most and I don’t want to burden the audience…I love animals and I’m not that crazy about people.”
Maher asked Pacelle about changing attitudes about animal welfare and rights from the general population, and brought up examples of human rights issues that were also once seen as controversial but that are now making great strides. Pacelle stated that the evidence shows that there is a “revolution happening”, citing larger food businesses that are refusing to source their products from factory farms, Ringling Bros. and SeaWorld‘s reforms, and cosmetic companies that refuse to test on animals.
They spoke about trophy hunting, the controversy with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) over the Humane Society’s support of SeaWorld’s pledged reforms, and about The Humane Economy‘s list of things to do to end animal abuse, the first being for people to vote with their dollars.
Maher ended the segment by speaking about the important connection between animal rights and the environment as a whole, and stated “let’s work together”. You can view the entire interview below:
