Italian Supermarket Chain Includes Vegan Section Due to Increasing Demand
While a supermarket dedicating an area of its store to fresh produce and dried fruits may not be anything new or exciting, including a section specifically for vegan products due to an increasing demand definitely is!
In Italy, popular supermarket chain Conad, owned by Filippo Lorenzini and Claudia Amodio, opened a new store in Savignano sul Rubicone and members of Fresh Plaza were there to see the opening and reported on new trends. With 10% of the store dedicated to fresh produce, Valentino Colantuono, sales manager for select Conad stores, stated:
“Every time we open a new supermarket, we give more importance to the fresh produce section. In case a store is renovated, we try to adapt the old structure to new trends, i.e. wide areas that are well-lit, welcoming and well-stocked.”
Fresh Plaza also noted the clearly labeled vegan product section right beside the fresh produce area, with Colantuono crediting it to an increasing demand that would have a presence in new and older stores. He stated:
“Demand is continuously increasing. Our new stores will have a vegan section from now on and we will also try to adapt the old ones.”
Implementing customer feedback is always a good idea, and clearly the people want more plant-based and healthy options! To see the photos of the impressive variety of vegan products that are available, visit this link.
