Kat Von D's Makeup Line is Getting a Full Vegan Makeover!
Many know Kat Von D as a famous tattoo artist, who has starred in reality TV show LA Ink. But she also has a makeup line aptly titled Kat Von D Beauty, and is also known for being a vegan and an animal rights activist.
While Kat Von D Beauty, as can be expected, is filled with bold colors and vibrant shades, the line wasn’t actually vegan. However, in a recent feature article with Laika Magazine, the star opens up about her veganism, her activism, and the fact that she is taking Kat Von D Beauty to the next level–and recreating the entire line to keep it free of any animal ingredients! Von D spoke about the common additive carmine (also known as CI 75470), which is made from the wings of beetles:
“We have been reformulating anything that had carmine in the past, and if we can’t reformulate, we just throw them out. I can live without a purple eye shadow, it’s fine.”
With many cruelty-free and vegan beauty lines now available, such as Gwyneth Paltrow’s Juice Beauty and Jaime King’s Colour Pop, it seems to be a fair assumption that Kat Von D Beauty will also be able to offer a purple eye shadow–free of any animal products. For those wondering why the beauty line wasn’t vegan to begin with, Von D states:
“When I launched [the line] I was not sober; I was not vegan yet. So I had no idea about ingredients in formulation. I would always think it was funny when brands would be like, ‘Oh, we’re vegan.’ Yeah, well you don’t eat lipstick. [I was] super ignorant, you know?”
While no timeline has been set for when the new and improved products will be available, adding another cruelty-free and vegan beauty line to the increasing amount available is always a great thing!
