Vegan Weightlifter Kendrick Farris Represents the U.S. at the Olympics!
Remember when vegan athlete Kendrick Farris broke the American lifting record in the Men’s 94kg clean-and-jerk earlier this year? In 2014 he praised his plant-based lifestyle for its many benefits, stating:
“I transitioned to a vegan diet about a month ago, and I’m happy to report that my life has changed for the better I feel like a new person.”
Well, it now seems that a plant-based diet is the gift that just keeps on giving! According to The Huffington Post, Farris is the only U.S. male weightlifter actually competing in the Rio Olympics this year–and, as they point out, he is 100% vegan! He told The Huffington Post more about his initial reasons for adopting the diet, stating:
“I don’t necessarily trust the way the food is being processed. I don’t agree with the way the animals are mass-slaughtered. So that’s one thing that kind of got me looking at what they call a vegan diet.”
KTBS also reported that Farris, who they refer to as “one of the strongest American athletes,” also made the decision after the birth of his son, stating he wanted to find “the most purest form of our life” and that it began by looking at food.
This will be the weightlifter’s third appearance at the Olympics, and he is clearly coming in with a positive mindset stating, “Is it a goal of mine to medal? It is, but at the end of the day I feel like I already won.” Farris joins a long line of incredibly successful and impressive vegan athletes!
