Second Location of Modern Love Opening in Brooklyn!
I personally know of Isa Chandra Moskowitz as a result of Veganomicon, the cookbook she wrote along with Terry Hope Romero, which is still a staple recipe source for me. When the person who created some of my favorite cookie recipes opens a restaurant, I of course take notice. Modern Love originally opened in Omaha, Nebraska in 2014 and offers “swanky vegan comfort food,” including mushroom-based Reuben sandwiches, shepherd’s pie, barbeque seitan, the signature mac and ‘shews dish, and much more. Now, Moskowitz is set to open Modern Love’s second location, this time a little closer to the Brooklyn-native’s home.
According to Paste Magazine, the second location will be in Williamsburg and can fit more than double the people than the Omaha location, with a menu that reflects the East-Coast. Moskowitz stated:
“We’re going to have things like latkes and pierogies, and other Eastern European favorites. We’re also going to do surf n’ turf New England-inspired with oyster mushrooms and popcorn cauliflower and clam chowder. We’re going a little Southern as well with a spin on our signature mac and ‘shews. We’re doing fried green tomatoes and making different chilies. We’re going to have fun with a bigger kitchen and playing around with every ingredient we can.”
Moskowitz noted that it’s always important to let the location of the restaurant influence her, as Modern Love is a “vegan translation of traditional food.” When asked what other potential locations she is considering for future restaurants, she stated Columbus and Los Angeles were on her mind. Until then, Modern Love’s second location is set to open mid-September, and the menu already sounds (and looks) fantastic!
