General Mills Launches New Line of Progresso Vegan Soups!
You might be thinking “so what?” to a new line of plant-based soups because, let’s be honest, the canned soup arena doesn’t offer a lot of exhilarating options for vegan. Until now. General Mills has launched a line of new and flavorful soups under Progresso Brand, named Good Natured Soup. Not only does it bear the word “vegan” on the package, this line of soups takes flavor seriously.
Carolyn Heneghan of Food Dive reports:
“General Mills could have simply made meatless soup varieties to appeal to consumers pursuing a more plant-based diet, but the company went one step further to also remove the dairy ingredients that could alienate vegans and consumers with lactose intolerance.”
This is a pretty big step toward recognizing vegan identities and palates. These soups aren’t “accidentally” vegan – they’re loud and proud vegan. The flavors are Hearty Tomato with Spinach and Roasted Garlic, Hearty Lentil with Garden Vegetables, and Hearty Corn and Chipotle Chowder. You can find a full list of ingredients here. While the new line does follow Progresso’s recent trend of switching to more natural ingredients (this also includes antibiotic- and hormone-free chicken in their meat-laden soups), it also might help people transition to a plant-based lifestyle along the way.
