Veggie Grill Gets $22 Million in Funding!
We recently wrote about how the Beyond Burger will soon make its way to all of Veggie Grill’s 28 locations. Before that, we wrote about how the restaurant chain had massive plans for expansion beyond the West Coast. Well, those plans are about to be realized much sooner since Veggie Grill just secured $22 million in their latest funding round!
Nation’s Restaurant News reports that the “equity funding comes from both new and existing investors” and that it will “help the 28-unit chain double in size within three years.” Steve Heeley, CEO of Veggie Grill, states:
“We plan to continue to grow in current markets in Southern California, as well as possibly Seattle, where we have three units. But we’re also looking to move out of the West Coast region. We’re still evaluating markets, but we’re looking at the Midwest and the East Coast.”
Heeley also noted the “demand for veggie-based food is really accelerating” and that it goes beyond plant-based eaters:
“Our market research shows us there are a large number of what we call ‘veggie positive’ people who are our target consumer. It’s not just vegetarians and vegans but people who want to move vegetables to the center of the plate.”
The demand for veggie-based food also comes from students and faculty members, so the chain even has their sights set on “college campuses and healthcare facilities, which would bring healthier and more compassionate fare to more people on-the-go.”
