NBA Forward Wilson Chandler Interviewed About His Plant-Based Diet

SLAM recently interviewed Denver Nugget forward Wilson Chandler, who returned to his team after missing out last season due to hip surgery, and one of the topics was Chandler’s new diet. The 29-year-old recently adopted a plant-based diet and when asked what inspired him to make the change, he responded:
“I think it was just about being health-conscious and then I was just reading a lot and I watched a few documentaries. I watched Food, Inc., I watched GMO OMG. I kind of think I made that connection–that’s what inspired me.”
When asked if he needed any help from his friends, Chandler responded that a friend in L.A. helped him a lot though a “service where she taught people the benefits of being vegan.” In terms of his fellow team members, Chandler feels that they generally “want to know more” but then leave it at that. When asked about his favorite vegan meal so far, he stated:
“Actually, right now, Detroit Vegan Soul in Detroit, Michigan. I’ve been there maybe eight or nine times and about to head over there right now to get a soul food platter. I also get a catfish sandwich made out of tofu.”
In the same interview, Chandler also states that he “grew up fishing on the bank and on the rivers of Michigan,” and that he still continues to fish, despite the change in his diet.
