Sharkwater's Rob Stewart Missing After Dive in Florida
Canadian filmmaker Rob Stewart, best known for his award-winning documentary Sharkwater, has gone missing after a dive in Florida. The Sharkwater Facebook page posted the news earlier today:
“Our friend Rob Stewart/ Robbie Stewart has gone missing off the coast of Islamorada Florida. He left in a dive boat from Caloosa Cove, dove at the Queen of Nassau Wreck Coordinated: 24.9243° ; -80.6278° and was last seen at the surface of the water at 5pm January 31st.
According to The Star, a spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard stated that “efforts to rescue Stewart would continue throughout the night and into Thursday morning.” Stewart was in Florida to film the documentary Sharkwater: Extinction, and his sister Alexandra stated that her brother emerged after his third dive of the day with his diving partner who was “struggling to get on board and then fell unconscious.” Although Stewart also surfaced and “gave the OK sign,” the crew lost sight of him, and the concern is that he lost consciousness as well.
Update: Global News has confirmed that the body of Rob Stewart has been found in the Florida Keys on February 3, 2017, three days after he was last seen.
