12-Year-Old Vegan Activist & Author Speaks at Calgary Health Show
For those attending the Calgary Health Show in Canada this weekend, you might be surprised by one of the speakers, Daniel Bissonnette. A vegan activist, author, YouTube star and public speaker, Bissonnette is set to give talks on both Saturday and Sunday, and when he does, you may be shocked to realize he’s only 12. According to CBC:
“Bissonnette shares research and his personal experience with diet, focused heavily on the most important meal of the day, breakfast, through speaking engagements, social media channels and even a book, Daniel’s Breakfast Burst.”
In the article, Bissonnette states that although he was made fun of for eight years for his diet, what “got the ball rolling” was when he was invited by his teacher to do a presentation on veganism to his Grade 3 classmates. He states:
“I am really passionate for teaching kids how to eat a healthy breakfast, because I know that a lot of kids are afraid that kids will make fun of them if they eat healthy. Your body is your temple so you need to eat the right foods and if your friends call you the weird kid, find better friends.”
His talk on both days will be focused on breakfast and the inclusion of three key ingredients–cacao, blueberries and coconut oil–that can “boost memory, focus and concentration.” Bissonnette’s talk on Saturday will be at Theatre 1 at 4:20pm, and on Sunday at Theatre 2 at 12:00pm.
