JoJo Returns to the Spotlight Vegan
Singer JoJo, who first made headlines with her 2006 album The High Road, is back in the spotlight after what FAULT calls a “10-year studio album hiatus caused by label issues.” Having released a new album in 2016 called Mad Love–described as a “daring exploration of smoky dance-pop”–there is something else that is new about the singer, and when Glamour asked JoJo last year what the most recent thing she “mad-loved” was, the singer replied:
“I found this really great vegan spot in New York. I’m just two weeks into being vegan, but now I get really excited when I find really delicious burgers. So I had this pumpkin seed burger from Candle 79. That made my day.”
She told FAULT in a recent interview that her initial interest in plant-based eating was because of her voice, as she struggled with allergies and “wanted to try something different to combat that,” and make singing easier. She added:
“So, I cut out dairy first, and then I started talking to my vegan friend and I started to feel what they told me about how when you eat animal products, you’re ingesting fear, death, and disease. I didn’t feel good about doing that anymore. So, I just slowly made a transition.”
While she doesn’t consider herself “a perfect vegan,” she states that she does eat plant-based, and as a result of reading “The Happy Vegan” by Russell Simmons and watching documentaries, feels it is “the choice” for her. To read the full interview, visit this link.
