Animal Rights Film Coming to Netflix [TRAILER]
We have our list of important animal rights and vegan documentaries, and are paying close attention to new films and documentaries being produced and released. One such film is Okja, directed by Bong Joon Ho, which screened during Cannes Film Festival this month and seems to tackle a plethora of issues surrounding animals, the environment, and activism tactics.
The film, which features Ahn Seo-hyun, Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Jake Gyllenhaal and Steven Yeun, is described on Netflix as the story of how:
“A gentle giant and the girl who raised her are caught in the crossfire between animal activism, corporate greed and scientific ethics.”
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the story follows the “rescue mission” of the animal, which becomes complicated due to “disparate groups of capitalists, demonstrators and consumers, each battling to control the fate of Okja.” The “gentlest of premises–the bond between man and animal” turns into a “distinct and layered vision of the world that addresses the animal inside us all.”
Okja, which received a four-minute standing ovation at Cannes, will come to Netflix on June 28, and you can watch the trailer below:
