Vegan WWE Star Austin Aries to Release Book on 'Plant-Powered Journey'
TNA World Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries, who became the first vegan to sign a deal with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to join its NXT brand, has announced that he is releasing a book, with the pre-orders beginning today.
Aries, who stated that he became vegan in 2011 “because of health reasons and benefits, environmental benefits, and the compassion aspect of the animals,” as well as because he gave “a damn,” titled the book Food Fight: My Plant-Powered Journey from the Bingo Halls to the Big Time. Described as Aries’ “high-energy memoir” that chronicles his “rise to wrestling glory and his personal evolution toward a plant-based diet,” the website adds:
“In this revealing memoir, Austin recounts his all-American Midwest upbringing, his less-than-legal post-college career choices, the life-changing moment when he began his wrestling training, and the adventures he encountered over his decade-long rise through the ranks of the indie wrestling world. Along the way, Austin also details his ongoing food education and the personal awakening that gradually led him to swear off eating any and all animal products.”
In the end, the book is neither about veganism or wrestling, but instead focuses on questioning the system, thinking for yourself, and having the bravery to make your own rules. You can pre-order Food Fight here, which ships out on June 9.
