Serena Williams & Gwyneth Paltrow Invest in Vegan Frozen Food Startup
UPDATE: Daily Harvest, backed by both Serena Williams and Gwyneth Paltrow, has just secured $43 million in its second round of funding! According to Fortune, the funding was “led by venture capital firm Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from VMG Partners, M13, actress Haylie Duff, Bobby Flay and Shaun White.”
The company, which prepares and freezes smoothies, chia parfaits, overnight oats and soups, has plans to deliver both lunch and dinner options come January.
Last month, we wrote about how Leonardo DiCaprio invested in vegan snack company HIPPEAS. Now, both Serena Williams and Gwyneth Paltrow have invested in vegan frozen food company Daily Harvest, joining its Series A financing round. The company, launched last year, specializes in preparing and freezing nutritious plant-based smoothies, chia parfaits, overnight oats and soups, all ready to be blended, soaked or heated, with “no prep, no mess.”
Rachel Drori, Founder and CEO of Daily Harvest, stated:
“Serena and Gwyneth immediately understood our mission to provide convenient foods without nutritional compromise, and their passion for what we are building will make them instrumental members of our investment team. As we continue to grow the Daily Harvest brand, partnering with like-minded investors furthers our mission to redefine the frozen food category. We’re excited to educate and inspire Americans across the country to incorporate healthier foods into their busy lives.”
Paltrow stated that she is excited to join the “revolution in frozen” since “farm-frozen produce is picked at its nutritional peak, retains more nutrients and its more readily available to everyone,” with Williams adding that she looks forward to “helping more people gain access to nutritious meals.”
