Game of Thrones: Vegan Actor Spotlight
With Game of Thrones making its big season 7 comeback, it seemed like a good time as any to put the spotlight on two actors in the show who promote both veganism and a general love of animals.
Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister, became a vegetarian in his teens and in a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA), elaborated on the decision:
“I decided to become a vegetarian when I was in my teens. At the time I was doing it because of my love for animals, but also for a girl. Of course. I have continued to stay with it out of my great respect for animals, though. Any form of animal abuse is pretty upsetting to me. As a New Yorker it’s hard to see horse drawn carriages every day, and I hope we can make more progress towards solving that issue.”
According to Veganuary, Dinklage has since become a vegan, and the actor has been featured in videos by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) focused on vegetarianism and exposing the meat and dairy industry.
Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays Missandei on the popular series, has been a vegan for almost five years and told Glamour Magazine earlier this year:
“I started eating a vegan diet about four years ago and even after a week I felt amazing. I had so much more energy. I don’t trust the food industry, I don’t trust what they put in our food -it makes me feel sick actually. I cook a lot and my signature dish is a vegan version of a Caribbean dish called Ackee and Saltfish.”
The star also posts about animals as well as homemade vegan dishes and restaurant meals on her Instagram, ranging from tofu and jackfruit scrambles to cookie dough milkshakes–offering her fans a lot of delicious inspiration!
