NBA Player Jahlil Okafor: “I’m just all-out vegan” [VIDEO]
A few months ago, we profiled Jahlil Okafor, the then center for the Philadelphia 76ers, and his newfound vegan diet.
Okafor, who now plays for the Brooklyn Nets, had switched to a plant-based lifestyle primarily for health reasons–which included trying to recover from a knee injury:
“The reason for doing that was to become healthy. I read this offseason that dairy was an inflammatory and my knee was swelling up, and I am a full on vegan now. I feel great and I am going to stick with it.”
“I had a recurring injury in my knee. I just kept getting hurt and my knee was always inflamed. Main causes of my knee for being swollen was dairy. I cut out dairy, watched a few documentaries. Then I cut out steak, cut out chicken, and gradually started cutting out every animal-based product, and now I’m just all-out vegan.”
He also added that he plans to educate his fellow teammates on the benefits of a vegan lifestyle, and that they have already seen the changes he’s made “in just three to four months of being vegan.” When asked what is now different about his game, Okafor replied:
“I’m just a lot faster, quicker. Pressure is off my knee.”
A few months ago, SB Nation profiled the improved performance of NBA players who have “sworn off eating animals and animal products,” which included Okafor.
