Another UK Supermarket Rolls Out Vegan Range
Gazette Live notes that the retailer has just released “vegan on-the-go lunch options,” which include a wrap, a sandwich and a salad. Asda’s blog lists all of the choices in the new vegan ‘Food To Go’ range:
- An onion bhaji wrap (£2.50), with mango and apricot chutney, sweet potato puree, spiced peppers, cucumber and fragrant herbs.
- A hummus and falafel sandwich (£2.50), with chickpeas, harissa, spiced chutney and sweet chilli sauce on rye bread.
- A Mexican rice and bean salad (£2.50), with turmeric rice, kidney beans, black eyed beans, sweetcorn, chargrilled peppers and onions.
Asda Innovations Chef Andrew Johnston states:
“With more and more customers going vegan, we’ve introduced a range which not only answers the dietary needs of the nation, but that also turns favourite foods into vegan-friendly, on-the-go options. From onion bhajis – one of the top-selling snacks in the UK – to a light Mexican bean salad, our new range ensures easy eating at any time, and delivers a punch of vibrant flavour in each bite.”
Johnston adds that Asda aims to “have a lot more inclusivity” in its ranges and plan to extend that across all of its categories, as “people are far more mindful of their food choices now and plant-based cuisine is massive.”
