Vegan-Friendly Burger Being Tested at Select Shake Shack Locations
Shake Shack, a fast casual restaurant chain based in New York City, will test out its own in-house vegan-friendly burger option next week.
The chain, which has 162 locations worldwide, already has a vegetarian ‘Shroom Burger, but since the portabello mushroom is “filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses,” it cannot be made vegan-friendly. In the case of the new Veggie Shack, Fast Company notes:
“The proposed patty is made of black beans, rice, and beets–and will be topped with provolone cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, and “vegan mustard mayo.” If you take away the cheese, it will be a bonafide vegan dish–something the shroom burger could never offer.”
The Veggie Shack will be tested out in select New York locations beginning Thursday April 19. As the article notes, “if it tastes good, maybe it’ll expand nationwide.”
Just last Friday White Castle announced that it would offer the $1.99 slider-version of the Impossible Burger at 140 locations across New York, New Jersey and in the Chicago area.
