Jackfruit Cafe Partners with New Wave Foods to Sell Plant-Based Shrimp Tacos
The process behind the shrimp-free shrimp includes:
“Isolating the proteins found in algae that the shrimps themselves eat. The proteins would then be mixed with different protein gels in order to form the meat.”
The resulting product has been served at the Google cafeteria and the company announced that it would soon be debuting popcorn shrimp.
Now for those in Los Angeles, trying the plant-based shrimp can be a reality. Jackfruit Cafe has partnered up with New Wave Foods to serve shrimp tacos. New Wave Foods posted the announcement on Instagram:
“Hey LA! Wanna try our shrimp? @jackfruitcafe has a new food truck and they’re slinging Shrimp Tacos! JULY 16-23… 12-3pm Crenshaw Blvd (Between Adams & 29th)”
Jackfruit Cafe also posted:
“”Are you sure this isn’t really shrimp?” is all we heard today watching our #jackfruitcafe patrons enjoying this fabulous shrimp taco made possible by New Wave foods. Thank you ladies”
There are a few other locations currently offering New Wave Foods’ plant-based shrimp, and you can find them here.
